TL;DR: Great horror reboot for those who are brave
Can I watch this with family: honestly other than the obvious extreme gore it was a pretty clean watch otherwise so yes, yes you can.
As a child who was traumatized by each movie in the franchise, I was cautious to see Final Destination: Bloodlines in theaters. Yet when the moment arrived and the movie had the option to be seen in D-BOX I was convinced to go. As well, having seen all 5 it felt wrong to not watch this one as well.
I’m glad that I did because the theater experience was one I will never forget. I am not one to always see films in D-BOX but with this one it was worth the extra cost. However, I will say, even without the enhanced effects, the movie's shocking moments would make anyone jump out of their seats. And as much as I may have remembered these movies to be off putting this one was somehow even more. Which is all to say the film, and franchise, succeeded in what it set out to do.
One detail I especially appreciated was how new the cast was. Though not unknown, for many of them this was a new genre and they all did fantastic. The characters they portrayed felt real and even with how quickly the film had to move to account for such a big family (if you know, you know), the characters were perfectly developed for you to actually care about their fate.
The film's strong world may be the result of its incredible opening scene. It's almost hard to believe the film's runtime is only an hour and 49 minutes as that opening scene alone felt like its own film. Each piece of the premonition, as it is known by franchise fans, felt well crafted and planned. And the rest of the film, though quick, followed fluidly with this basis.
I was shocked, concerned and uncomfortable while watching, which is exactly what I would expect from this genre of horror. In this way Final Destination: Bloodlines was an impressive success.
With a touching goodbye from Tony Todd, Final Destination: Bloodlines had just enough nods and new ideas to make the film a near perfect reboot. For being a franchise focused on death, after this new addition, its future feels more alive than ever.
4 / 5 Great horror
